You can sign to them directly; when they get older, you can encourage them to response for example, ‘do you want some salt + pepper on your sandwich?, do you want some sliced tomatoes? or how many slices of cheese did you want?’ Use your knowledge of what your child loves, and use that as an opportunity to encourage them to response your questions.
